EA2 was launched in July 2021, as the fuel crisis flared to its peak and the currency hit 30,000 LBP to the dollar. Though the thawra’s momentum had decreased, people were increasingly turning towards local action in their communities. Over 300 community members applied to EA2. We were challenged by the rolling blackouts, fuel, electricity, and water shortages, and the worsening devaluation of the Lebanese pound – which made the urgency of protecting basic environmental rights ever more blatant.
